What Does Ruth 2:15 Mean?
As Ruth rises to return to her gleaning, Boaz quietly gives his young men a remarkable instruction: let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not. Ordinarily a gleaner stayed behind the reapers, gathering only what fell to the ground. But Boaz grants Ruth access to the gathered bundles themselves, and forbids anyone to shame or scold her for it.
This is generosity that goes beyond the letter of the law into its very spirit. Boaz not only permits Ruth more than custom required; he guards her honor while she receives it. And notably, he does it quietly, without parading his kindness before her. True grace often works this way, lavish in giving and gentle in manner, protecting the dignity of the one it blesses. Boaz's hidden command mirrors the God who provides for His people more abundantly than they ask, and shields them from shame as He does it. Ruth gleans richly, never knowing how the path was smoothed.
