What Does Ruth 2:16 Mean?
Boaz's secret kindness goes further still. He tells his workers to let fall handfuls on purpose, deliberately dropping extra grain in Ruth's path so that she may gather it, and again he forbids any rebuke. Ruth will think she is simply finding good gleaning; in truth, the abundance is being arranged for her by a generous hand she cannot see.
Here is grace at its most beautiful, hidden, intentional, and abundant. Boaz arranges blessing for Ruth without her knowing the source, letting her keep the dignity of her own labor while quietly multiplying its reward. How like the providence of God, who scatters mercies in our path and lets us gather them, often without our ever seeing the hand that placed them there. Much of what we call good fortune is grain let fall on purpose by a loving God. Ruth gleaned what was deliberately given, a picture of how the Lord enriches His people through kindness they may never trace back to Him.
