What Does Ruth 2:23 Mean?
Ruth follows the counsel given her, staying close to the young women of Boaz and gleaning faithfully through the end of both the barley and the wheat harvest, a span of weeks. And all the while she continues to dwell with her mother-in-law, the bond between them as steadfast as ever. The chapter closes on a note of provision, safety, and quiet faithfulness.
Through the long harvest, Ruth keeps to her humble work and to her devoted love for Naomi. The two widows are sustained day by day, no longer empty but cared for. This steady season of provision is the calm before the next turn in the story, when the matter of the kinsman-redeemer will come to the fore. God often gives such seasons of quiet faithfulness, where His people simply abide, work, and love, while He prepares the larger blessing still to come. Ruth's constancy here, faithful in labor, faithful in love, is the soil from which redemption will soon spring.
