About this church
Vista La Mesa Christian Church holds Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. in person and on Zoom at 4210 Massachusetts Avenue in La Mesa. The congregation describes the atmosphere as inclusive, casual, and reverent, with prayer, singing, Scripture, a sermon connected to daily life, and a blend of musical styles. Communion is central every Sunday, and everyone is invited to participate as comfortable. Online worshipers are welcomed by name, may add prayer concerns in the chat, and can remain connected during coffee hour after the service.
This Disciples of Christ congregation emphasizes shared leadership rather than treating worship as the work of clergy alone. Lay members greet, read Scripture, lead prayers and songs, prepare and serve Communion, receive the offering, sing in the choir, and sometimes preach. Sunday Morning Study generally explores a biblical book or theme with a rotation of teachers, many of them ordained; it meets in Bailey Hall and on Zoom but usually pauses for summer. Additional small groups and open classes extend learning beyond Sunday worship. For someone comparing churches in La Mesa, Vista La Mesa offers a particularly clear hybrid experience: remote participants are actively acknowledged instead of merely watching a broadcast, and newcomers can encounter the congregation through worship, study, Communion, coffee-hour conversation, or a volunteer role.
