About this church
St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church is a diverse Monterey Park parish centered on Scripture, Catholic tradition, the sacraments, and life in the Holy Spirit. The homepage currently highlights an 8:30 a.m. Mass and procession for a dated celebration, but the reviewed public text does not expose a dependable recurring weekend schedule. It does indicate Mass Monday through Saturday without readable times. Because a special-event time is not a substitute for the weekly calendar, prospective visitors should consult the current bulletin or parish office for Sunday, weekday, and Reconciliation hours.
The parish traces its roots to 1918, when land from Rancho San Antonio supported a small wooden church. A four-room school opened in 1926, and Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary administered it for 67 years. The present church was later renovated with saints' niches, a baptismal fountain, and a Eucharistic Chapel. Religious education includes preparation for Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation; high-school Confirmation is a two-year process. A Safeguard the Children committee implements Archdiocese of Los Angeles policies, education, site-safety evaluation, program review, and audit preparation. Outreach supplies local families with food, clothing, and necessities, while ministers bring prayer, Scripture, Communion, and bereavement support to sick and homebound parishioners. Mass duration, child care, attire, parking, accessibility, hearing assistance, livestreaming, and Eucharistic guidance for non-Catholics are not published.
