Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church

About this church

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is a Roman Catholic parish on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, California. The parish’s identity draws on Carmelite spirituality and devotion to Mary; its history explains the Brown Scapular tradition and notes that the original Newport Beach mission lots were purchased in 1923. Parish life today includes sacramental preparation, OCIA for adults exploring Catholicism, children’s and youth formation, liturgical service, and a broad range of ministries. Families can contact the children’s and youth ministry directly for current registration materials, while adults seeking initiation have a defined path through OCIA. The church’s stained glass and Carmelite references give the worship space a particularly local expression of that tradition.

The weekend schedule includes Saturday Mass at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday Masses at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., noon, 5:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Daily Mass is celebrated Monday through Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Confession is offered Wednesday evening and twice on Saturday, with adoration on Wednesday evenings and for an extended period on the 23rd of each month. The parish provides archived livestream Masses online. Located at 1441 West Balboa Boulevard, it offers unusually broad Sunday timing for residents and visitors spending a weekend near the Newport Beach peninsula.
