St John's Lutheran Church

About this church

St. John's Lutheran Church in Palm Desert is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on Washington Street. Two Sunday services are offered: Traditional Worship at 9:15 a.m. uses liturgy and hymns from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal with music from the Celebration Singers choir, and Contemporary Worship at 11:15 a.m. features songs led by the church's worship band and includes a children's sermon. Both services include Scripture readings, prayers and a sermon, and communion is offered at an open table where all are welcome. Times may change, so confirm them on the website.

On Sunday mornings from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., Sunday school for kindergarten through fifth grade features Bible lessons, music, crafts and games, while a youth Bible study for grades 6 through 12 meets at the same hour and adds monthly outings, service projects and social events. A three-year confirmation program serves grades 6 through 8, and a play area called Grace Space is available during worship. Adults can take part in Christian education, music and arts ministries, caring ministries and community outreach carried out with local charitable partners. Visitors are invited to come as they are, and ushers are on hand to greet and guide newcomers. Both services are streamed on YouTube for those who cannot attend in person, and the church office is open weekday mornings.
