Newman Center Catholic Community

About this church

Newman Center Catholic Community at UC San Diego is a Jesuit-led parish serving undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other supporters of its campus ministry. Founded with UCSD in 1966, it seeks to grow friendship, faith, and service through welcome, diversity, shared Catholic faith, and compassionate service. The community gathers inside Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, sharing church and hall space with episcopal approval, about a block and a half from the Executive Drive Blue Line trolley station.

Sunday Mass begins at 12:30 and 7:00 p.m.; choirs support both liturgies. Weekday Mass meets Tuesday through Thursday at 12:10 p.m. During weeks one through ten of fall, winter, and spring quarters, Wednesday Adoration alternates between XLT on odd weeks and Taizé on even weeks at 8:00 p.m. Confessions are heard Sunday 6:00–6:45 and Wednesday 7:00–9:00 during those quarter weeks, or by appointment. Confirmed Catholics can train as altar servers, readers, hospitality ministers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, or Mass coordinators. Student ministers build community through mentoring, facilitation, prayer, and service. Public pages do not specify Mass length, dress, parking, accessibility, nursery or children’s programs, check-in, volunteer screening beyond diocesan safety links, Communion guidance for non-Catholic visitors, or livestreaming.
