Debre Sahel St Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church In Orange County

About this church

Debre Sahel St. Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church holds Sunday worship from approximately 4:00 a.m. to noon in Whittier, encompassing Divine Liturgy, hymns, prayer, and fellowship. Founded on April 27, 2013, the parish operates under the constitution of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The long morning window reflects an ancient liturgical tradition rather than a short auditorium-style service, so visitors should plan their arrival with that difference in mind.

The parish welcomes first-time guests, people returning after time away, and those exploring Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. Although Amharic is part of parish life, the newcomer page says visitors do not need to know the language because someone can help them follow worship. The church also aims to provide spiritual and social service fairly across communities. Newcomers should contact the parish for the most appropriate arrival time, language guidance, and expectations around receiving Communion. Families can also ask which portions are most accessible for children before traveling to Mina Street early Sunday morning.
