Ascension Lutheran Church

About this church

Ascension Lutheran Church in Boynton Beach celebrates Holy Communion every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. From September through May, choir rehearsal begins at 9:30. Worship follows the ancient pattern of Gathering, Word, Meal, and Sending, with seasonal variation and diverse music. The congregation explicitly welcomes people across differences of race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, economics, relationships, life situation, and level of certainty about faith. Children, families, friends, spouses, and partners are included in that invitation.

Founded in 1958, Ascension opened its first church building in 1961 and dedicated the present sanctuary in 1983. The round worship space draws people toward a central coral-stone altar, while sea colors, natural wood, a shell baptismal font, and stained-glass windows connect Lutheran sacraments with South Florida's landscape. Members serve as readers, acolytes, assisting ministers, ushers, greeters, and Eucharistic ministers. Holy Communion is also taken to people unable to attend, and faith-formation classes connect Christian teaching with daily life. Outreach supports neighbors through several community partnerships. A first-time visitor can expect a traditional word-and-sacrament liturgy in an architecturally distinctive space rather than a stage-oriented service.
