St. Paul's Church

About this church

St. Paul's Church is the downtown Alton worship site of the Episcopal Parish of Alton, where Sunday Mass begins at 10:30 a.m. The parish's second site, Trinity Chapel at 1901 State Street, has an earlier 8:15 Sunday Mass and should not be confused with the directory address. Morning Prayer meets Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Chapel. One Tuesday Bible study starts at 10 a.m.; another begins at 5:30 p.m. The main parish office is at St. Paul's and opens Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Established in 1836, the parish has two historic congregations within one Episcopal structure and welcomes residents and weekend visitors to the Riverbend area. Ministries place members in local organizations, health-care facilities, community service, worship, and mutual care. One especially practical program is the 4 PAWS Pet Food Pantry, which distributes free dog and cat food from St. Paul's Market Street entrance on the first Sunday of each month from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; it aims to support food-insecure households and reduce pet surrender. Visitors seeking the listed Third Street church should choose 10:30, while 8:15 worship requires travel to Trinity Chapel. Pantry guests should use the Market Street entrance after the main service rather than the chapel location.
