Christ Church of Carbondale

About this church

Christ Church of Carbondale gathers Sunday at 10:00 a.m., with visitors encouraged to arrive a few minutes early. A typical service lasts about 75 minutes and includes Bible readings, congregational singing, Scripture preaching, prayer, the Lord’s Supper, and baptism when scheduled. Childcare for birth through kindergarten uses trained and screened volunteers, defined teacher-to-child ratios, allergy information, and a 24-hour symptom-free health standard. Children and young adults from first through twelfth grade worship with the congregation, reflecting the church’s desire to integrate older children into its shared life rather than separate every age.

The church summarizes its mission as Christ-centered worship, gospel-formed community, and gospel-propelled mission. Members gather weekly, share life through small groups and discipleship relationships, and understand ordinary settings as mission fields. Carbondale’s international character and Southern Illinois University are central to that outlook: the congregation sees students and residents from around the world as an opportunity for local relationships to have global reach. Quarterly children’s events such as Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat, and participation in a local Walk for Life serve families beyond the congregation. Its published beliefs align with historic Christian creeds and the 1689 London Baptist Confession.
