St James Catholic Church

About this church

The weekend liturgy at St. James Catholic Church begins Saturday at 4 p.m.; Sunday Mass follows at 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. at 428 North Second Street in Rockford. Monday-through-Friday Mass begins at 8 a.m. Thursday Holy Hour and devotions run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the same hour listed for Confession; Saturday Confession is available from 2:30 to 3:30. The campus sits on North Second Street between Prairie Street and Lafayette Avenue, and the parish publishes a facilities map to help visitors locate its church, school, and other buildings.

The parish describes itself as a family of faith that worships together and serves through compassion, education, justice, and peace. Its account of parish life emphasizes praying, learning, and working together across differences in race, background, gender, income, and politics, with both Scripture and the Eucharist at the center. Visitors interested in becoming Catholic can explore OCIA and other faith-formation resources. Parish groups include St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, a prayer chain, life and formation committees, the Altar and Rosary Society, and coffee-and-doughnut fellowship. Liturgical volunteers serve as altar servers, lectors, musicians, sacristans, greeters, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.
