Church of Christ

About this church

Philo Road Church of Christ in Urbana welcomes visitors for fellowship and donuts at 9:45 a.m. before Sunday worship begins between 10:00 and 10:05 and lasts about an hour. Services feature a cappella congregational singing, Bible teaching, prayer, and weekly Communion; baptized believers in Jesus are invited to participate in the church’s open Communion practice. A nursery serves children through age two, while children ages two through seven may join Bible Time during the message. On Sunday evenings, a Caring and Sharing group meets at 5:00, and the Illini for Christ college ministry meets at 6:00 during the school year.

Wednesday begins with prayer and a prepared meal at 6:00 p.m., followed by children’s and adult classes from 6:45 to 7:30. Illini for Christ also offers University of Illinois and Parkland College students a free Thursday dinner and Bible study during the academic year. Beyond its own programs, Philo Road identifies active relationships with Empty Tomb, CU at Home, Salt & Light, Restoration Urban Ministries, Jesus Is the Way Prison Ministry, and Habitat for Humanity. That combination of campus outreach, age-specific care, shared meals, and community partnerships gives prospective visitors a useful picture of life beyond the main Sunday service.
