About this church
Salem Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation at 602 West Townline Street in Creston, worships Sundays at 10 a.m. The service is grounded in word, water, bread, and prayer, joining Lutheran roots with practical relevance for life today. Holy Communion is served on the first and third Sundays of each month and on festival Sundays. Baptized visitors are invited to receive, while children may come forward for a blessing. Salem's mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through worship, education, fellowship, and outreach in Creston and neighboring communities.
The congregation was organized in 1871 as Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Salem Church in the home of John Sandall, and Sunday school followed in 1883. That history now meets an inclusive picture of discipleship and service. One accessible outreach is the Long Table Food Pantry on the church's east side near Sycamore and Townline. Neighbors who need food may take an item as a sign of grace; those with enough are invited to leave something for another family. Volunteer opportunities are posted in the narthex after worship, connecting the congregation's service with Sunday life. The church also hosts outside community groups, so listings for Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon elsewhere on the site should not be confused with Salem's own worship schedule.
