About this church

St. George Greek Orthodox Church is a Des Moines parish with roots in a Greek society formed by two hundred immigrants in 1924. The parish was established four years later, secured its first regular priest in 1929, and celebrated Christmas 1930 in its present Greek Revival church. Today it welcomes Orthodox Christians of every ethnic background along with newcomers exploring the faith.

Sunday Orthros, or Matins, begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00. Weekday services occur only on selected dates, so the parish calendar is essential for feast-day planning.
