Messiah Lutheran Church

About this church

Messiah Lutheran Church is a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation in Emporia, Kansas. Its teaching emphasizes God’s grace in Christ, faith given in Baptism, and continuing formation through Scripture and Holy Communion. Sunday worship offers traditional and contemporary musical settings, supported by choirs, a worship team, organ, piano, and visual-media volunteers. Children begin learning in classes from age two, while middle- and high-school students have Bible classes, confirmation, retreats, service through Vacation Bible School, and occasional mission trips. Small groups are also developing around shared seasons of life and interests.

Traditional worship begins Sundays at 8:30 a.m., followed by Sunday School and Bible classes at 9:45. Blended contemporary worship starts at 11:00 and is livestreamed. The church is at 1101 Neosho Street. Preschool and elementary classes open together with a worship song, memory verse, and Bible story before separating by age. School-year youth activities include monthly gatherings for fifth- and sixth-graders and Wednesday confirmation, though those dates are not identical every week. Visitors can choose the earlier service for hymns and organ or piano, or the later service for music led by the worship team, and should check the calendar for Communion and seasonal events.
