House of Prayer Lutheran Church

About this church

House of Prayer Lutheran Church is a Hingham congregation seeking to spread Christ’s message of love through worship, fellowship, music, and service. Its social ministry connects local care with wider Evangelical Lutheran Church in America projects that provide practical resources such as water filters, solar lanterns, garden supplies, chicks, and bees to communities facing basic-needs challenges. Music ranges from Lutheran liturgy and early American hymnody to gospel, spirituals, classical repertoire, and contemporary Christian compositions.

Sunday worship begins at 9:30 a.m. and is described as family-friendly. A remodeled nursery is available for use during the service, and children’s activity packets are kept at the rear of the church; the site does not promise staffed nursery care, so parents should plan accordingly. The adult choir rehearses Sunday at 8:30 and ordinarily sings from September through June. Children ages four through sixth grade participate in an occasional choir rather than a fixed weekly program, while seasonal ensembles require only one or two rehearsals. The sanctuary’s pipe organ, two grand pianos, and strong acoustics also support community concerts and recitals, some of which are outside groups rather than church services. Visitors should use the worship page and current calendar to distinguish congregational gatherings from hosted musical events.
