First Congregational Church

About this church

Gaylord First Congregational United Church of Christ worships Sunday at 10:00 a.m., with a livestream and an archive of recent services available online. Youth of all ages begin in worship, then move to the church's lower level after the Kids Chat; on the first Sunday of each month, their class begins directly at 10:00 for a special topic. Music is a visible part of congregational life, and the weekly service page identifies the worship leader, musician, liturgist, greeter, digital-ministry volunteer, and coffee-hour plan.

Founded on its present site in 1874 as Gaylord's first church, the congregation became part of the United Church of Christ in 1957. It welcomes people at different stages of their spiritual journeys and describes love, unity amid diversity, service, and care for creation as central values. Youth programming emphasizes service through local and regional mission trips and visits to other religious communities. The church also helps support a free nonsectarian community meal every non-holiday Friday at 4:00 p.m. and partners with local food assistance. Its description of itself as a small church with a large community footprint is borne out by this combination of open worship, youth service, meals, music, and longstanding Gaylord roots.
