Saint John the Apostle Episcopal Church

About this church

Saint John the Apostle Episcopal Church in Ionia is an Episcopal parish that meets for Sunday worship at 9 a.m. at its church on West Washington Street. The Sunday liturgy varies between Morning Prayer and Holy Eucharist, and the parish also holds weekday services. The congregation describes itself as affirming and inclusive, and it treats its welcome to people of every background as a firm commitment rather than a slogan. Schedules can shift from week to week, so confirm the current service on the parish website or Facebook page.

A coffee hour follows every service and gives newcomers a relaxed way to meet members, and one Sunday each month the parish shares a potluck meal; bringing a dish is optional. Other parish groups include Episcopal Church Women, an altar guild and a prayer chain, and pastoral visits are offered. For outreach, the parish chooses a different local cause each month, with past support going to the local food pantry, a soup kitchen and a kids' meal program, and it also gives to Episcopal disaster relief. A community pancake breakfast aimed at local food insecurity is in the works. Mail goes to PO Box 307 in Ionia, and questions can be sent by phone or email.
