First United Methodist Church

About this church

First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti gathers for worship Sundays at 10:30 a.m., with an online option available from the church's home page. Its music brings together multiple traditions: First Spirit uses singers, drums, piano, bass, and guitar to introduce contemporary worship, while organ and piano support congregational singing and service music. The result is one shared service with a broader musical vocabulary rather than separate contemporary and traditional hours.

The congregation describes its calling as embodying Christ's transforming love through worship, mutual care, community change, and work for shalom. It is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network and emphasizes welcome across ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Accessibility is approached through the building, advocacy, education, awareness, and outreach rather than a single accommodation. Small groups remain open to members and nonmembers, and the Caring Connection supports people unable to attend through visits, notes, Communion, and meals. Visitors seeking an inclusive Methodist church in Ypsilanti will find one late-morning service, online worship, mixed musical leadership, and a strong care network. Check announcements when local schools close, since weather and community closures can affect activities.
