First United Church of Christ

About this church

First United Church of Christ in Northfield worships Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in person and online through Zoom and YouTube. A contemplative service follows at 6:00 p.m. with music, candlelighting, reflection, and Communion. The church is Open and Affirming and welcomes people across differences of belief, background, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Dress ranges from casual to formal. An accessible entrance, parking spaces, and elevator are available near the south end of the lot, and ushers can help livestream-conscious guests find seating outside the camera view.

Children join the congregation for a pastoral message during worship. From September through April, faith formation for preschool through fifth grade and the middle-school group meet at 9:15 a.m.; the unstaffed nursery remains available as a quiet space. The congregation describes its calling as practicing the courageous love and justice of Jesus. Local service includes Meals on Wheels deliveries, Community Action Center housing and food work, and Habitat for Humanity builds. The church is at 300 Union Street, near Carleton College. Visitors can preview recent sermons and complete services online. Because school-year education and youth programs are seasonal, check the calendar before planning around the 9:15 hour.
