First Presbyterian Church

About this church

First Presbyterian Church of Slayton is a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation whose mission is to honor God by loving others, one person at a time. Its shared schedule alternates worship and Sunday School with a neighboring Reformed congregation every two months. For months hosted at the Presbyterian church, the published times are 9:00 a.m. worship and 10:30 a.m. Sunday School; visitors should check the current location before setting out. The church also invites anyone needing transportation to call, a useful detail for people who might otherwise be unable to attend.

The Sunday experience is shaped by greeters and ushers, a rotating worship team, children’s sermons, monthly children’s bells or special music, and guest speakers. Outreach is equally visible. The One Project supplements the Murray County Food Shelf with a featured commodity each month, while Caring for Kids provides shoes, boots, warm coats, clothing, and other essentials to local children. Organized in 1882 by twenty-three Christians and worshiping in its present-site building since 1892, the congregation brings deep Slayton history to a small-town ministry that still emphasizes welcome, practical neighbor-care, worship, and sharing the gospel.
