First St. Charles United Methodist Church

About this church

First St. Charles United Methodist Church begins its single Sunday service at 10 a.m., both in person and by livestream on YouTube and Facebook. Communion is served once a month, on the opening Sunday. The online ministry is intentionally hospitable: remote participants can complete a connection card, identify themselves as first-time guests, and receive a mailed welcome gift. Services also remain available on demand, making the same congregation accessible to someone evaluating the church, traveling, or unable to join live.

Founded in 1821, First St. Charles has more than two centuries of ministry in the city. A Learning Center addition completed in 2019 expanded space for children, youth, and families, and the church's early-childhood center offers flexible weekday learning that integrates spiritual, physical, intellectual, creative, and social development. An Inclusivity Matters group, organized in 2019 by church members and clergy, advocates for LGBTQ+ neighbors and works alongside a group composed of LGBTQ+ members. The congregation connects its historic Methodist identity with hands-on outreach rather than treating longevity as the whole story. A newcomer can attend the single 10 a.m. service or use an archived message first, then explore the learning and advocacy ministries separately.
