First Baptist Church, Lumberton

About this church

First Baptist Church of Lumberton publishes Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30, followed by Wednesday gatherings at 6:00 p.m. Worship blends traditional liturgy with contemporary elements, using music, prayer, and Scripture-based teaching in a service where children, youth, adults, and seniors participate. The church invites guests to come as they are and describes the morning as multigenerational rather than divided by worship preference or age.

For more than 170 years, First Baptist has served Lumberton from four buildings across three locations. Its current mission is to live out Christ's love by serving God and all people, and the congregation explicitly describes itself as racially, economically, and politically diverse. Sunday School, Bible studies, and community groups make room for questions and continued learning, while outreach, music, arts, and leadership development connect the historic downtown church with civic life. Visitors seeking a Baptist congregation should note its distinctive emphasis on inclusion: the church states that “all means all” across race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and political affiliation, making that welcome a central part of its self-understanding rather than generic hospitality language.
