St Francis Episcopal Church

About this church

St. Francis Episcopal Church worships on North Main Street in Rutherfordton, with Christian formation at 8:30 a.m. and a Rite II Holy Eucharist at 9:30. The Eucharist is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, and the church posts a complete bulletin for each Sunday. Its western North Carolina roots reach to itinerant Episcopal missionaries in the 1830s. Today the parish welcomes people regardless of background or stage in their spiritual journey, centering its life on Word and Sacrament before carrying forgiveness, hope, and service into the wider community.

A guided-visit option is especially helpful for someone unfamiliar with Episcopal worship. A parish host can meet a guest in the parking lot, help children reach nursery or Children's Church, and explain the progression of the liturgy. Altar Guild, music, outreach, education, and other ministries allow members of different ages to contribute their gifts. The church's physical and mailing addresses differ, so in-person visitors should navigate to the sanctuary at 408 North Main Street rather than the office mailbox across the street. Reviewing the current bulletin or livestream beforehand can make the responsive prayers and movements of a Rite II service more approachable.
