St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church

About this church

St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church’s published calendar ordinarily places Sunday Orthros at 8:45 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10:00 in Upper Darby. The congregation explains that worship is the clearest introduction to Orthodox Christianity: visitors encounter Scripture, prayer, music, ceremony, sacramental life, and traditions that may initially feel unfamiliar but express the church’s living faith. Weekday liturgies, vespers, and services for feast days also appear on the calendar.

Religious, educational, and cultural ministries serve both parish members and neighbors. The church treats prayer, fasting, charity, humility, love, and forgiveness as connected practices rather than separating worship from daily Christian life. A newcomer does not need to understand every movement of the liturgy before attending; arriving before Orthros offers the fullest Sunday experience, while coming before 10:00 is appropriate for Divine Liturgy. Because Orthodox calendars change around feasts and special observances, guests should verify the specific date. Families looking for Sunday School or Greek cultural programming should use the parish calendar to confirm current sessions rather than assuming they meet every week.
