Friendship Baptist Church

About this church

Friendship Baptist Church is a historic African American congregation in downtown York whose motto is “A Church Reflecting Christ’s Love in Every Moment.” Founded in 1959 by forty people and their families, the church developed ministries in worship, prayer, Bible study, evangelism, hospital and prison care, membership formation, and music before moving to its East Market Street home in 2010. Ministries serve multiple stages of life.

Sunday worship begins at 11:00 a.m., with adult study at 9:00. Wednesday Bible study meets virtually at 7:00 p.m. Age-based study is published at different hours: Primary meets Sunday at 4:30 p.m., Juniors Saturday at 11:00 a.m., and teens Monday at 6:15 p.m. Because these are distinct groups rather than one simultaneous Sunday School block, households should confirm the age definitions and active term with the church. The congregation offers transportation to Sunday worship by advance telephone request, a useful option not common to every directory listing. Praise and Worship ministry leads congregational song, while the broader ministry directory includes nursery and other forms of participation. The history page is especially valuable for understanding the church’s York roots, and the current homepage should be consulted before holidays or special community services.
