Alvin Methodist

About this church

Alvin Methodist meets Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at 611 West South Street. FirstKids operates during the gathering for babies through fifth grade, with age-specific Bible teaching, games, worship, and small groups. The children's ministry uses a computerized security system with matching parent and child tags, and its rooms are staffed by trained volunteers. Students in sixth through twelfth grade can attend Reasonable Faith Sunday at 9 a.m. for a deeper examination of Christian claims; their main Wednesday service in The Loft begins at 6:30 and ends at 8 p.m. The last Wednesday of each month has a separately published 6 to 8 p.m. pattern.

The church's Methodist statement connects salvation through Jesus with sanctifying grace and growth toward Christian maturity. Its local service work is unusually specific: quarterly Family Promise hosting supports families experiencing homelessness, the monthly Gathering Place gives caregivers a respite while loved ones with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias participate in activities, and additional efforts address food needs and international missions. Visitors with children can use the same Sunday hour as the adult gathering, while teenagers have both a pre-worship study and a midweek program. Because the final Wednesday differs from the ordinary student start time, families should consult the current calendar when a month is ending.
