Calvary Baptist Church

About this church

Calvary Baptist Church is a Brenham congregation at 1100 Niebuhr Street. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m., worship at 10:45, and Children's Church at 11. Wednesday includes a meal at 5:30 p.m. and Bible study at 6. The church describes itself as an independent, autonomous Baptist congregation that cooperates with the Southern Baptist Convention and affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Scripture is presented as the sole authority for belief, preaching, and teaching, with Jesus' saving grace at the center. Worship combines older hymns with newer choruses, and the church's invitation is simply to come as you are.

The congregation began in 1963 as a mission of First Baptist Church, meeting in a house under the name Beverly Hills Baptist Chapel. It formally organized as Calvary Baptist Church in 1965 with 84 charter members, later purchased the Niebuhr Street property, and built a church and education building there. Today it describes worship, fellowship, and community service as shared purposes. A weekly newsletter and sermon archive help prospective visitors see current topics, while support programs such as GriefShare appear seasonally. Check the current newsletter before traveling for a group or event beyond the regular weekly schedule.
