First Presbyterian Church

About this church

First Presbyterian Church in Danville begins Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and sanctuary worship at 11:00 at 937 Main Street. Childcare is available from 9:30, and clothing ranges from shorts and polo shirts to suits and dresses. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade begin in worship with their families, then leave after the children's sermon for their own Sunday School. The church stands next to the Sutherlin Mansion and Museum, a few blocks west of downtown.

Founded in 1826, First Presbyterian was Danville's first organized congregation. Its mission extends through local and global partners as well as an in-house Saturday Lunch Ministry, which serves a free hot meal to roughly 70–100 neighbors every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Youth meet for Sunday School and seasonal midweek programs, and children from birth through graduation have age-specific opportunities. A day school, sermon archive, Wednesday supper, and mission pages provide further ways to learn about the congregation. For visitors, the profile brings together historic place and current practice: a clear education-and-worship sequence, childcare that starts before classes, flexible clothing, children's participation in the first part of the service, and a weekly meal ministry serving downtown neighbors.
