Emmanuel Episcopal Church

About this church

Emmanuel Episcopal Church in downtown Staunton gathers Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and holds Morning Prayer Monday through Thursday at 8:45. Ushers welcome visitors and help them follow the service; there is no dress code or membership requirement. A nursery is available, but children are equally welcome to remain in worship. The setting is memorable: the church describes a 120-year-old, half-dome-vaulted chapel with stained glass and worship rooted in Episcopal tradition. Communion and participation are offered within an explicitly inclusive welcome across ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender.

Coffee hour after Sunday worship creates a natural place to meet people. Music includes a historic pipe organ, congregational hymns, and choir anthems on important Sundays and holy days. Members also serve through food programs, educational fundraising, liturgical roles, altar care, and audiovisual support. Emmanuel’s profile therefore combines a historic sanctuary with an open, current community life rather than treating architecture as the main attraction. For a first visit, arrive for the single Sunday service, ask an usher for help with the liturgy, keep children with you or use the nursery, and stay for coffee if you want conversation afterward.
