Prayers of the Bible
Scripture is full of people who poured out their hearts to God, and their words still teach us how to pray. Over seven days, kneel beside Hannah, Solomon, Jehoshaphat, Daniel, and the Lord Jesus Himself. Learn to ask, to confess, to surrender, and to intercede, until prayer becomes the natural breath of your walk with God.

The Pattern of Prayer
Matthew 6:5-15Jesus warns against empty repetition and gives us a model: "Our Father which art in heaven." Before we ask anything, we hallow His name and seek His kingdom. Notice how the prayer moves from worship to daily bread to forgiveness. Let these few lines slow you down and teach you how the Lord Himself would have you draw near.
Hannah Pours Out Her Soul
1 Samuel 1:9-20Hannah prays in bitterness of soul, weeping so freely that Eli mistakes her grief for drunkenness. "I have poured out my soul before the LORD," she answers. God hears, and in time gives her Samuel, whom she gives back to Him. Bring your deepest ache honestly to God today. He is not put off by tears.
Solomon Asks for Wisdom
1 Kings 3:5-15God says to Solomon, "Ask what I shall give thee." He could have requested riches or long life, but he asks for "an understanding heart to judge thy people." God is pleased and grants far more than he sought. Consider what you are truly asking God for. The desires we bring to Him reveal what we treasure most.
Jehoshaphat in Crisis
2 Chronicles 20:1-22Surrounded by armies, King Jehoshaphat gathers Judah and prays, "We have no might... neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee." That honest helplessness becomes his strength, and God fights for them. When you are overwhelmed and out of answers, this prayer shows the way: admit you cannot, and fix your eyes on the One who can.
Daniel's Prayer of Confession
Daniel 9:1-19Daniel turns to God "with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes," confessing not only his own sin but his people's. "O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive," he pleads, appealing to God's great mercies, not his own goodness. Honest confession opens the door to grace. Let Daniel teach you to name what is wrong and to trust the mercy of God.
Surrender in Gethsemane
Luke 22:39-46In the garden, in agony, Jesus prays, "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." He asks honestly for what He longs for, then lays it down in trust. Here is the hardest and holiest prayer of all. When God's will leads through suffering, may we learn from our Lord both to ask plainly and to surrender fully.
Paul Prays for the Church
Ephesians 3:14-21Paul bows his knees not for himself but for fellow believers, that they would "be rooted and grounded in love" and "know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge." Prayer reaches its fullness when it carries others to God. Name someone today, and ask that they would be filled "with all the fulness of God," to whom be glory in the church by Christ Jesus.
