1 Chronicles 1:44 Meaning and Explanation

When Bela died, the throne of Edom passed to Jobab, son of Zerah, from the city of Bozrah. The writer records the succession plainly, noting how one king gave way to another among the Edomites. The phrase in his stead will repeat through the list like a solemn refrain.

Each king rose and then died, and another took his place. The repeated cadence of death and succession says something true about all earthly thrones: they pass from hand to hand and never last.
