1 Chronicles 2:25 Meaning and Explanation

The chronicler now takes up the line of Jerahmeel, Hezron's firstborn, naming his sons. Though Jerahmeel was the eldest, the royal line ran not through him but through his brother Ram's descendants. Here his own family is recorded, the Jerahmeelites, who settled in the southern reaches of Judah.

It is worth noting that the firstborn's line, though honored with first mention, did not carry the kingship. Throughout Scripture God often passes over the firstborn to choose another, reminding us that His purposes follow His own wisdom, not human custom.
