The sixth month is given to Ira son of Ikkesh, a man of Tekoa, the town that would later send the prophet Amos and from which a wise woman once pleaded before David. Ira too was numbered among David's valiant men.
Small towns and ordinary places send out servants whom God uses greatly. Tekoa was no great city, yet it gave Israel warriors, wisdom, and a prophet. The Lord delights to raise up those from humble origins, that the honor of the work may rest on Him.
