What Does 1 Chronicles 5:2 Mean?
The chronicler completes his explanation: the privileges of the firstborn were divided. Joseph received the material birthright through his sons' double inheritance, while Judah received the scepter, the line of kingship. From Judah would come the 'chief ruler' over the people.
