What Does 1 Chronicles 9:10 Mean?
Now the chronicler comes to the priests, the descendants of Aaron set apart to minister at the altar. Three are named first, heads of priestly courses who returned to take up their sacred duties in the rebuilt temple.
That the priests are recorded so prominently shows where the restored community placed its hope. Worship could not resume without those appointed to mediate between God and His people. Their presence in the city meant that sacrifice, prayer, and praise could rise again. In them we glimpse the longing for one who would draw near to God on the people's behalf, a longing answered fully in the great High Priest to come.
