What Does 1 Corinthians 1:19 Mean?
To support his point, Paul quotes the prophet Isaiah, where God declares that He will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the cleverness of the clever. The Scriptures had long foretold this overturning.
God is not impressed by the proud reasoning that thinks it can measure Him. Again and again He sets aside human wisdom that exalts itself, so that no one may stand before Him on the strength of their own understanding. This is not contempt for thought but for pride.
