What Does 1 Corinthians 7:23 Mean?
Paul names the ground of Christian freedom: "ye are bought with a price." Christ has redeemed his people at the cost of himself. Therefore they are not to become, in heart and conscience, the servants of men.
The price paid was Christ's own life, and it sets the believer's true ownership. Because we belong to him, no human authority may claim our ultimate allegiance or bend our conscience against God.
