If the message heard from the beginning abides in them, they will remain in the Son and the Father.

What Does 1 John 2:24 Mean?

John urges them to let the original message abide in them, the truth they heard from the beginning. If it remains, then they too will continue in the Son and in the Father.

Perseverance is tied to holding fast what we first received. The gospel must not be exchanged for novelties but kept and treasured. As the truth abides in us, we abide in God. John offers a beautiful promise: faithfulness to the message we have heard keeps us in living fellowship with both the Son and the Father, secure in the love we were called to from the start.
