What Does 1 John 3:8 Mean?
John traces sin to its source. The one who keeps sinning is of the devil, who has sinned from the beginning. But against this stands the purpose of Christ: the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil.
Sin is the devil's domain, but it does not get the last word. Christ came precisely to undo what the evil one has done, breaking his grip and dismantling his works. This is good news for all held by sin. The Son of God entered the world as the stronger one, to set captives free. Those who belong to Him are being delivered from the works He came to destroy.
