What Does 1 Kings 1:48 Mean?
David lifts his voice in praise. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, he says, who has given an heir to sit on his throne while his own eyes still behold it. The king credits God, not his own arranging, for the gift of a peaceful succession witnessed in his lifetime.
David's praise turns the whole account heavenward, naming God as the true giver of the kingdom. His joy is to see God's faithfulness with his own eyes before he dies. So the believer's deepest gladness is to behold God keeping His word, and like David to bless the Lord who gives, in His mercy, the desire and the fulfillment alike.
