Micaiah makes his commitment: he will speak only what the Lord has shown him, regardless of the cost.

Context

This is Micaiah's answer to the pressure to conform. He invokes the Lord as his witness and pledges himself to speak only the word he has received, whatever that word may be. It is a vow, a commitment, a drawing of a line between his allegiance to God and his fear of the king.

What Does 1 Kings 22:14 Mean?

In these few words, Micaiah has chosen his path. 'As the LORD liveth,' he says, invoking the name and the reality of the living God as his surety. 'What the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.' Not what the king wishes. Not what four hundred other prophets proclaim. Not what the messenger has begged him to say. Only what the Lord has revealed to him. This is the kind of commitment that costs something. Micaiah sees the pressure arrayed against him, understands the danger, and speaks anyway.

We witness here the heart of prophecy and the heart of faithfulness. To speak what you have been given to speak, even when it will not be received, even when it will bring upon you the anger of the powerful, even when silence would be easier and safer. Micaiah's words are simple, but they contain the seed of the gospel: the willingness to be faithful to what God has given you, to speak truth even to a world that has already decided it does not want to hear.

Application

What has God shown you that you have not yet spoken? What are you waiting for? Micaiah's example teaches us that faithfulness sometimes demands that we speak even when the price is clear.
