Samuel now finishes the task Saul left undone, calling for Agag, the Amalekite king. Agag comes delicately, with cautious confidence, supposing the bitterness of death is past. He believes he has escaped.
The judgment Saul refused to carry out falls at last through the prophet's hand. Agag's false sense of safety is a warning: delayed justice is not cancelled justice. What God has appointed will be accomplished, by one hand if not another, and no one finally evades the reckoning of heaven by mere passage of time.
