What Does 1 Samuel 17:33 Mean?
Saul measures the matter by ordinary reckoning and finds David wanting: you are not able to go against this Philistine, for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. By every human standard the king is right.
Saul sees only the mismatch of age and experience, blind to the unseen strength that David carries. The world weighs a contest by what it can measure, and so it counts David out.
