When Goliath finally sees his opponent, he is filled with contempt. David is only a youth, ruddy and fair of face, hardly a warrior in the giant's eyes. Goliath disdains him as unworthy of the fight.
Pride blinds the giant to his danger. He measures David by appearance and sees nothing to fear, never reckoning with the God who stands behind the boy.
