What Does 1 Timothy 2:14 Mean?

Paul continues from the garden, noting that the deception came through the serpent's words to Eve, while Adam's part was of a different kind.

The point is the danger of deception, which had real bearing in Ephesus where false teaching was spreading. Paul recalls how subtly error first entered the world. Both Adam and Eve shared in the fall, and Scripture holds out hope of redemption to both.

In the Original Language

apatao (ἀπατάω), 'deceived' -- to be led astray or beguiled by falsehood.
