What Does 1 Timothy 5:6 Mean?
Paul draws a sharp contrast. The widow who gives herself to self-indulgence is, in a deeper sense, already dead even as she lives.
A life spent chasing pleasure may look full but is empty of the life that matters. Paul warns that bodily existence is not the same as true life. Only a soul turned toward God is truly alive; the rest is a kind of living death.
