What Does 2 Corinthians 4:5 Mean?
Having spoken of the light of Christ, Paul makes clear who stands at the center of his message. He does not advertise himself, his gifts, or his authority. The content of his preaching is one Person: 'Christ Jesus the Lord.' Every true minister disappears so that the Master may be seen.
And so Paul takes the lowest place. He calls himself the Corinthians' servant — a slave, even — and does it 'for Jesus' sake.' Here the gospel pattern shows itself: the Lord who came to serve makes His messengers servants too. Authority in Christ's kingdom is never a platform for self; it is a towel and a basin, taken up for the sake of others and for love of Him.
